We have many different groups at SMITH who specialize in a variety of environmental practices. Our groups include the following:
  • Environmental Construction – including erosion control BMP installation, landscaping, and irrigation
  • Ecological Management – including herbicide application, prairie dog management, bird surveys, and nest removal
  • Ecological Sciences – including wetland permitting, environmental assessments, GIS and AutoCAD, and environmental engineering
  • Hazardous Materials and Industrial Hygiene – including Phase I and II site assessments, soil and water sampling, brownfield assessments, and mold, lead based paint, and asbestos investigation and abatement oversight
  • Public Information Management – including press releases, public meetings, strategic communication planning, and interacting with stakeholders

Field Laborer

Job Summary

We are looking for efficient, safety-focused Laborers for our Environmental Construction Group at SMITH Environmental and Engineering. This work is
seasonal starting in early March through November/December, full-time, and requires individuals to be team and goal oriented, efficient task
workers, with a desire to learn and better themselves and their fellow employees. The individuals needed will be able to perform labor intensive
activities in all weather conditions throughout the day.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Install a variety of erosion control products including; silt fence, erosion logs, soil retention blanket, etc
• Install plants in native areas and formal landscaping
• Load /unload materials
• Help clean shop, yard, and vehicles
• Must be able to lift more than 75 lbs
• Must be able to use a variety of hand tools (i.e. shovels, rakes, picks, sledge hammers, staple guns, etc.)
• Experience operating a skid steer, farm or tractor equipment; and chainsaw and/or tree felling experience is a plus but not required

Expectations:
• Be willing and able to follow directions
• Must comprehend instructions in English
• Be on time and ready to work
• Report to foreman about daily work assignments
• Complete any other duties assigned by foreman
• Be willing to adhere to company policies
• Must be reliable, honest, and hard-working
• Good communication skills and an ability to work well with others

Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license required
• Be available to work long, irregular hours and occasional weekend shifts(overtime is paid for all shifts more than 12 hours long and all hours more than 40 worked in a week)
• Applicant must be able to pass a background check and drug test
• Must be legally allowed to work in the USA

Erosion Control/Landscape Laborer – Benefits:
• Starting Pay: $16/hour
• Overtime pay available when applicable
• Reimbursement of $0.50/mile for personal use of your car on company business

• PTO, and paid holidays (8 per year) upon completion of introductory period

Junior Estimator / Project Coordinator

Job Summary

SMITH is a thriving environmental engineering and consulting services firm based in the north Denver-Metro area. We are seeking a Project/Construction Estimator, with an interest in winning work, and a committed interest in growing a company. This position is an important part of our business development team and has room for substantial growth.

Responsibilities and Duties

This role will require involvement in finding and submitting bids. The overall goal is to support entire the entire cycle from opportunity to award/result.

  • Evaluate bid invitation and help SMITH’s team make decision on appropriate opportunities
  • Research and source new project opportunities
  • Perform take-offs on jobs intended to bid and help in proposal efforts with pricing and technical information
  • Coordinate estimate material pricing from vendors and other sources
  • Coordinate document flow during process
  • Prepare and submit bids on a variety of projects (private and public)
  • Responsible for client and project follow up
  • Work collaborative with other team members (groups) to prepare necessary documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Development, or background experience in construction management, engineering, landscape and/or sales in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with Bluebeam is preferred,
  • Comfortable with takeoff software and online project tracking tools
  • Comfortable with numbers and proficient with Excel spreadsheet
  • Comfortable with deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask
  • Problem-solver mentality
  • Take personal responsibility for quality in working environment
  • Proactive approach to project and tasks
