We have many different groups at SMITH who specialize in a variety of environmental practices. Our groups include the following:
  • Environmental Construction – including erosion control BMP installation, landscaping, and irrigation
  • Ecological Management – including herbicide application, prairie dog management, bird surveys, and nest removal
  • Ecological Sciences – including wetland permitting, environmental assessments, GIS and AutoCAD, and environmental engineering
  • Hazardous Materials and Industrial Hygiene – including Phase I and II site assessments, soil and water sampling, brownfield assessments, and mold, lead based paint, and asbestos investigation and abatement oversight
  • Public Information Management – including press releases, public meetings, strategic communication planning, and interacting with stakeholders

Erosion Control Foreman

Compensation:

$16-18 DOE

Job Duties and Description:

  • Directs laborers to complete jobs safely, work as assigned and correctly.
  • Responsible for completion of daily documentation of work progress.
  • Reports to Superintendent about daily work.
  • Coordinates materials, equipment, and personnel with Superintendent.
  • Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Installs, removes, and maintains a variety of erosion control products and liner.
  • Clearing sediment; Loading /unloading materials; cleaning shop and yard.
  • Transports crew to job site.
  • Ensures crew is installing materials correctly.
  • Ensures the entire crew is following proper safety and precaution procedures.
  • Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes any other duties assigned by Superintendent/Project Manager.

Requirements:

  • Erosion Control/Reclamation Foreman: 2-4 years
  • Must be able to follow directions and take instruction.
  • Must be able to lift more than 75 lbs.
  • Clean driving record required; CDL Class A license is a plus.
  • Be available to work long, irregular hours and occasional weekend shifts.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work well with others.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a background check, drug test, physical exam, and government employment verification.

  • Prior experience in: masonry, high end residential landscape and/or irrigation, hardscapes, water features, low volt lighting, etc.
  • Must be able to follow directions and take instruction.
  • Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools (i.e. shovels, rakes, picks, sledge hammers, staple guns, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift more than 75 lbs.
  • Clean driving record required; CDL Class A license is a plus.
  • Be available to work long, irregular hours and occasional weekend shifts.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work well with others.

Job Duties and Description:

  • Directs laborers to complete jobs safely, work as assigned and correctly.
  • Responsible for completion of daily documentation of work progress.
  • Reports to Environmental Construction Group Manager about daily work.
  • After installation and services, monitor all aspects of the irrigation system and identify any problems.
  • As necessary, perform hands-on work with crews to meet work and scheduling demands.
  • Work with the Environmental Construction Group Manager to identify staffing needs, hire new crew, and prepare daily crew schedules.
  • Ensure proper paperwork is completed for all employee changes and new hires.
  • Communicate with, counsel, train, discipline, review, and develop growth plan for employees.
  • Hands-on training and support of crew members, including proper operation of equipment, installation techniques, safety, and quality standards.
  • Focus on safety and monitor safety records.
  • Maintain and manage all required administrative systems, including but not limited to time sheets, job databases, and service schedules.
  • Order materials as needed and monitor costs and deliveries.
  • Request purchase orders and use in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensures the entire crew is following proper safety and precaution procedures.
  • Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes any other duties assigned by Environmental Construction Group Manager.
